Our Story: A Legacy of Dedication to Costa Rica’s Wilderness
The Sanctuary is the latest chapter in a long journey that began with a young man’s passion for Costa Rica’s natural beauty. Sergio Miranda, the visionary behind The Sanctuary, has spent his life immersed in the country’s breathtaking landscapes, from pioneering ecotourism companies to producing films that celebrate Costa Rica’s environment. But this project is not his alone—it is the result of a partnership with Alexandro and Luis Mora, whose family has protected this land for generations. Together, they aim to create a sanctuary that preserves this beauty for future generations while offering sustainable and profitable investment opportunities.
Pioneering Ecotourism in Costa Rica
Sergio Miranda played a crucial role in shaping Costa Rica’s ecotourism landscape. As the founder of Horizontes Nature Tours and Marenco Biological Station, his work was recognized in a Harvard University study for its significant contribution to establishing Costa Rica as a global leader in sustainable tourism. While Horizontes was sold and Marenco closed over 15 years ago, their legacies continue to influence the region’s ecotourism sector.
A Family’s Legacy: Don Victor Mora and the Mora Brothers
The land that forms the foundation of The Sanctuary has been lovingly cared for by the Mora family for over four decades. Don Victor Mora, a true hero in this story, painstakingly acquired the property over a span of 40 years. His vision and dedication have made it possible for the dream of The Sanctuary to exist today. After Don Victor’s unexpected passing, his son Alexandro Mora took over the responsibility of maintaining the property and ensuring its preservation.
Alexandro is an adventure tour guide who has devoted his life to exploring Costa Rica’s wild landscapes. He currently serves as a lead guide for one of the premier rafting companies in La Fortuna, San Carlos. His brother, Luis Mora, remains deeply connected to the project, supporting the vision set by both their father and Sergio. Together, the Mora brothers bring a deep-rooted understanding of the land and a passion for its preservation.
Bridging Two Worlds: Film and Nature
For over 34 years, Sergio has explored every corner of Costa Rica, scouting locations for films, television shows, and documentaries. His extensive work in both ecotourism and the film industry has given him a unique perspective on how to showcase Costa Rica’s natural beauty while protecting it.
Sergio’s production company has facilitated over 110 international projects, showcasing Costa Rica’s ecosystems on a global stage, further establishing him as a leader in both industries.
Discovering The Sanctuary
Sergio first encountered the property that would become The Sanctuary while scouting for waterfalls. Captivated by its natural beauty and the potential it held, he envisioned creating a one-day eco-tourism destination. With its proximity to San José, The Sanctuary offers a rare opportunity for visitors to experience pristine wilderness without the need for long travel times.
Today, with the support of Alexandro and Luis Mora, The Sanctuary is poised to become a reality. But to complete this vision, like-minded investors are needed to help bring The Sanctuary to life and preserve Costa Rica’s natural beauty for future generations.
